Clarehouse began in 1999 in the heart and mind of our Founder and Executive Director, Kelley Scott, who saw the need first-hand as a nurse in hospice and hospital-based palliative care. With a small group of visionaries and a giant leap of faith, Clarehouse was founded in 2001. Despite the difficulties in starting a completely donor funded non-profit offering a new model of care, Clarehouse began caring for guests in 2003 in a modest three-bedroom apartment in mid-town Tulsa. The need for this “home away from home” was great, and we expanded our service twice in that temporary location, to a total of eight bedrooms, serving over 1,000 guests in those first six years. The dream expanded to a purpose-built home designed specifically for our unique care. Through a capital campaign in 2007, our community donated over $7 million to fund and build our permanent home. Our five-acre campus supports the original vision of a warm, loving environment for end-of-life care in a natural setting. The non-institutional, non-clinical feel of our home is coupled with the great compassion and experience of our staff and volunteers to provide the next-best-thing to home for our guests. In 2017, we were founding members of the Omega Home Network, a national membership organization of community homes for people who are dying. Through the Network, we continue to work to spread our model of care, believing every community should have a home like Clarehouse.
