The Newfield Foundation Funds Clarehouse Care

The Newfield Foundation has generously funded Clarehouse since 2009, making this the 4th consecutive year of a wonderful partnership.  Our Newfield Sponsor, Chad Trainer fondly remembers  the time when his wife’s grandmother was a guest at Clarehouse.  Since that time, Chad has graciously submitted Clarehouse for consideration of Grant Funding through The Newfield Foundation, founded by Newfield Exploration Company as a way to give back to the communities where it’s employees live and work.  Without the support of Chad and Amy Trainer, this partnership would not exist and we are enormously grateful to them both.  This is a wonderful example of the “Pay It Forward” philosophy that Clarehouse families embrace.

Thank you so much to Chad, Amy and The Newfield Foundation!

Clarehouse participates in city wide United Way Day of Caring

Clarehouse volunteers hosted 32 guests at the Salvation Army Center for Hope for Movies, popcorn, candy, and Pizza.  Guests watched two movies, Soul Surfer and The Blind Side in the Salvation Army Chapel.  The food and snacks were provided by the Clarehouse executive staff and volunteers.

The Tulsa Area United Way’s Day of Caring is one of the largest events of its kind in the nation. During this day, more than 4,100 volunteers log more than 30,000 hours of work on 360 projects across the Tulsa area.

“We had a great day at the Salvation Army Center for Hope here in Tulsa” say Mike Douthitt, Support Services Director at Clarehouse.  ”We saw two good movies, ate some pizza, popped some popcorn, met some grateful people and cleaned-up.  Then we took some donations to the Day Center for the Homeless. I’m learning that we are loved not so that we can be changed, we are loved so that we can change ourselves.”

The Clarehouse Memorial Service was celebrated Sunday, August 28th in honor of those who died at Clarehouse from September 1, 2010 to February 28, 2011. We believe it is important to create a sacred time and place to gather and remember those whose journeys we have shared. The service gives our guests’ families and friends a meaningful opportunity to reunite with staff, volunteers and board members.

The service was beautifully prepared by Mike Douthitt, Support Services Director. Rev. Alan McBroom, Chaplain, St. Francis Hospice shared his personal reflections and experience with the loss of a loved one. The litany of names of loved ones lost was read, and family members came forward to select a butterfly memento to take in remembrance. Storytelling followed as family and friends shared photos, memories, laughter and tears.

We are grateful to pianist Tom Wolf and cellist Charlene Debus for their gifts of music and volunteers Eve O’Kelley, Lucille Brown, Becky Cotney, Judy Cairl, Barbara Lawson, and Evelyn Lee for hosting the reception.

The next Clarehouse Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, February 19, 2012.
